I love how cheesy you are! I've often thought about how you're able to keep composing with the demands of your job. I know that composing is your true passion and I'm so glad you're still able to find time for it! But I'll bet that other music teachers aren't as lucky as you...you got really lucky when you married your amazing and talented wife! And your goofball of a son is pretty great, too. He's definitely a future musician...or maybe I'll turn him into a bookworm like me. Either way, he's gonna be a bohemian nerd, just like his daddy!

By the way, I heard that the goofball was perfect for gramma today. You guys should come and visit again soon, when it's still early enough for him to be awake. :)

Thanks for posting this....I couldn't bring myself to watch any of the memorial service. I don't know...after growing up with his music, being a fan for so long, I kind of just don't care about his personal life. He was an amazing entertainer and musician, and the loss of him is a tragedy.

Yes, you can explain Bach, you can Haydn, you can explain Mozart, but Beethoven...why is Beethoven's music beyond the pale?
What single word can you apply to it?
Mastery, balance, simplicity, wild abandon, complexity, all of it in each chord.

It is a great program to use because it is free and has an easy to understand user interface. You can use multiple inputs and manipulate the sound waves.

Excellent answers, Matt. Good teachers produce good students who ask good questions. You should be proud, both of yourself and of your students.

Oh, Matthew, Matthew, Matthew...where do I start? You definitely have interesting things to say, more than most people I know. But I can understand your feelings. Most of my more prolonged absences from blogging (say, absences longer that two or three weeks), have been caused by depression, the feeling that I can't be bothered or don't know how to articulate what I'm feeling. But writing it down and posting it for anonymous people floating around in cyberspace is very cathartic.

So, keep it up. I love your rants, and I'd love to hear about your daily life with the family.(By the way, Benjamin was very cute and very demanding today...but he has a weird issue with letting go to the bathroom in peace.)
